Geotechnical Design

We delivered comprehensive geotechnical and structural solutions, including tender pile design and estimating, pile mat design, foundation design, retaining wall design, and slope stability analysis.

 

To enhance efficiency and sustainability, we optimized the foundation system through strategic pile testing, achieving significant cost and carbon savings for the client.

 

Using advanced investigation techniques, we profiled the local scour feature in London Clay and then mitigated the associated risks. We conducted a preliminary test pile within the scour feature to assess the shaft resistance of the granular infill, ensuring a reliable and resilient foundation solution.

We delivered geotechnical and structural solutions, including tender pile design and estimating, pile mat design, foundation design, retaining wall design, and slope stability analysis.

 

When some of the contract working test piles failed to perform, we carried out a comprehensive review of the pile construction records, then implemented a pile testing programme consisting of both high strain and low strain dynamic testing, with supplementary static tests to identify problematic piles. We worked collaboratively with the structural engineer to redesign the foundation system to ensure structural reliability.

This world class interdisciplinary research and development campus has 30,000m² of research laboratories, an oncology and preventative care clinic, plus educational and meeting spaces. Together, they create the perfect environment for experts to take ground-breaking ideas from research to broad implementation.

 

We delivered all RIBA Stages from concept through to delivery on site. Specified and oversaw site investigation, Ground Movement Assessment (GMA) for a two story basement, specified and then reviewed site instrumentation and monitoring plan including a heritage listed building, Thames Water and Network Rail assets, carried out pile and retaining wall design, construction sequencing, reviewed the contractor's design proposals. Generated £2.4Million saving on foundation system through the use of piled-raft analysis. Market tested contractor's piling proposal.

We worked with the architect to win the global design competition for this project. We led the design from concept through to the end of stage 3 (Geotechnical, Civil and Traffic disciplines). 

 

Our geotechnical design received the highest score from the peer reviewer at end of Stage 2 helping to secure the competition victory. 

 

We designed and specified all the geotechnical works including site investigation, rock support,  blasting, benching, foundation systems, piling, anchoring and instrumentation & monitoring on the project. 

 

We visited Saudi Arabia several times throughout the project and now have a detailed understand the local design and build contracting environment.
